Abstract
Planning for exclusive breastfeeding should be planned as early as possible, especially for groups of unmarried women. The benefits of exclusive breastfeeding are in accordance with one of the goals of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), namely reducing child mortality and improving maternal health. If you do not have a good planning regarding exclusive breastfeeding, the inadequate intake of breast milk results in an imbalanced nutritional needs of the baby. This study aims to analyze the relationship between perceptions of benefits and plans for exclusive breastfeeding for students of the Public Health Study Program, Faculty of Health, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. This type of research is analytic observational with cross sectional approach. Sampling using Proportional Random Sampling technique, the sample used amounted to 187 UMS Public Health students. The statistical test used in this study is the Chi-Square Test. The results showed that there was no relationship between perceptions of benefits and plans for exclusive breastfeeding for students of the Public Health Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (p => 0.999). It is recommended that students of the UMS Public Health Study Program increase awareness about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding so as to increase planning for exclusive breastfeeding in the future.
