Abstract

Mental disorders are a form of behavioral or psychological patterns directed by a person that results in stress, dysfunction and decreased levels of life. The high prevalence of people with mental disorders causes stigma in individuals, namely the stigma of mental illness which is influenced by factors such as attitudes and knowledge of a person, especially nursing staffs, namely nursing students. This study aims to determine the correlation between knowledge and attitudes with the stigma of mental illness in nursing students. The type of this study is quantitative research with the descriptive correlation method. This study took place at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The sample used in this study amounted to 76 respondents who were selected by the sampling method using purposive sampling technique. The results of statistical tests with the chi square test, the correlation between knowledge and mental illness stigma, obtained r value of 538 with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05 and the correlation between attitude and mental illness, the value of r 518 with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, which means that there is a correlation between knowledge of mental and attitude disorders with a moderate stigma of mental illness.
