Abstract
This study aims to (1) describe the structure that builds the novel RS. (2) describe the cultural form contained in the novel RS, (3) describe the relevance of the cultural form of the RS novel in literature learning in high school. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data of this research are quotations of words, expressions and sentences containing cultural structures and forms in the novel RS. The primary data source in this research is the novel Secrets of Salinem. Data collection techniques used in this study were library techniques, observation and note-taking techniques. The data validity technique used theoretical triangulation. The data analysis technique used to analyze in this study was the semiotic reading method which consisted of hermeneutic and heuristic readings. There are three results of this study (1) the structure of the novel RS builder includes. The theme, in the novel RS Emil, the theme is about tracing the origins of the family. The facts of the story include characterizations, the characters in the RS novel consist of Salinem, Gusti Kartinah, Gusti Soekatmo, Tyo and Bulik Ning. The plot used in this story is progressive or progressive. There are three backgrounds in the novel RS, the setting is Klaten, Sukoharjo, Solo and Jakarta. The time setting of the story revolves around the 72 years that occurred in 1923-1967 and 2013-2019. The social background in the novel RS describes the conditions of different social status and conditions of the struggle period. (2) there are three forms of culture in the novel RS which contain cultural elements. Cultural ideas have elements of the knowledge system culture related to the intelligence of the character and the ideas of livelihood related to the character's income. The social system has elements of culture, the religious system is described by religious activities, the organizational system is described by differences in social status, livelihoods are described by trading in the market, and language is raised by the skill of a character who masters a foreign language. Physical culture has cultural elements, religious systems are manifested in the presence of places of worship, organization is manifested by the existence of a family tree or family tree, art is depicted by the shrewdness of a character in making songs, and a livelihood in the form of pecel food which is traded by one of the figures. (3) the relevance of the cultural form of the novel RS as literary learning in high school in grade 12 which is related to basic competence 3.9 to analyze the contents and language of the novel.
