Abstract
Disaster preparedness will encourage disaster risk reduction in schools, and the implementation of disaster education and disaster mitigation policies will create disaster-safe schools, especially schools located in disaster-prone areas. The objectives of this study were: (1) knowing the level of student preparedness in facing the eruption of Mount Merapi, (2) Knowing the importance of disaster education at SMP Negeri 2 Selo, and (3) Knowing disaster mitigation policies at SMP Negeri 2 Selo in the face of volcanic eruptions. Merapi. The research method used in this research is quantitative research. Data collection techniques in this study used interviews, questionnaires, and documentation studies. The results showed that (1) the level of student preparedness in facing the eruption of Merapi Volcano was classified as almost ready with a value of 63.69, (2) The importance of disaster education at SMP Negeri 2 Selo, this is due to the location of the school which is prone to volcanic eruption disaster. Merapi and schools have not implemented a disaster curriculum and schools have not integrated disaster education into extracurricular activities. (3) The disaster mitigation policy at SMP Negeri 2 Selo is in the form of structural policies: making a UKS room, the field as a gathering point, making evacuation routes, using speakers as a warning sign for disasters and non-structural policies: socializing the eruption of Merapi Volcano.
