Abstract
Exclusive breastfeeding is an effort to improve the nutritional status of children in the first 1000 days of birth. Exclusive breastfeeding affects the quality of the baby's health. The fewer the number of babies who are exclusively breastfed, the worse the health quality of babies and toddlers will be. The majority of the Public Health Study Program at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta is female, therefore it is very important that exclusive breastfeeding knowledge for students as prospective mothers and who will later work in the health sector will become role models in society. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between knowledge and plans for exclusive breastfeeding for students of the Public Health Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. This type of research is analytic observational with a cross sectional design. The population in this study was 488 people and the sample was taken using the Proposional Random Sampling technique with a total sample of 187 female students of the Public Health Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Muhamadiyah University, Surakarta. The statistical test in this study used the chi-square test. The results showed that there was no relationship between knowledge and plans for exclusive breastfeeding for students of the Public Health Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (p => 0.284). It is recommended that students of the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta Public Health Study Program increase their knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding so that they can increase awareness of the importance of exclusive breastfeeding.
