Abstract
This study aims to determine how mother's interpersonal communication as a single parentl towards adolescents in forming independence. The reason the researchers conducted this study was to find out how the strategy of a mother as a single parent who has multiple roles as a housewife and bread winner in the family hopes for independence in adolescents.This research was conducted in Semanggi Village, Surakarta City. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, with data collection techniques carried out by conducting in-depth interviews. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The results of this study indicate Mother's interpersonal communication as a single parent to adolescents in an effort to form independence here is based on three dimensions of independence in adolescents, namely emotional independence, independence of values and independence of behavior. Three single mother informants apply or in still independence in their children in different ways and understandings. Two families of single mothers have a high-schema conversation orientation because they always intensively build conversations with their children. Meanwhile, single mothers with their children have a poor conversation schemeah because they are both busy working and have limited time to talk. Meanwhile, the compliance orientation of the three single mother families has a high compliance scheme. The children of this single mother have always been obeyed and listened to what was ordered by the mother and there was no low obedience scheme found in the informant's third family
