Abstract

This study aims to: 1) describe and obtain a more in-depth description of waste management through waste bank activities at Elementary School Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta; 2) describe the teachers role in managing waste through waste bank activities at Elementary School Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta; 3) describe the obstacles faced by teachers in managing waste through waste bank activities at Elementary School Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta. This research is a case study or case study using qualitative methods. The research data were obtained using descriptive methods. Data collection techniques in this study were interview and documentation. The resource person in this study were the Principal of the School, Garbage Bank Officers, and Student. The data analysis technique used the Miles model and Huberman. Namely data presentation, data reduction, and data verification. The result showed that 1) The management of an environmentally friendly program contained a waste management process which was carried out every Friday, the participant of student in waste bank activities, and the participation of parents and the community in waste bank activities. 2) The role of the teacher in managing waste as giving direction and guidance to students when the garbage bank activity takes place. Garbage bank officers are tasked with providing direct directions to students, as well as receiving reports from the environmental police regarding problems that arise. 3) Obstacles in waste bank activities are the existence of narrow land, awareness and understanding of different students, socialization of the importance of environmental awareness.
