Abstract

Metal in industrial world is a human life supporting staples and technological advances. One of the methods to form a metal is heat treatment. This reasearch aims to determine the effect of microstructure and hardness after the annealing process using quenching media and tempering at room and ice temperature. This reasearch uses the variety of heat treatment method with temperature 840°C within 60 minutes then quenched in water and ice and tempered in 200°C within 20 minutes. The hardness is tested using the Rockwell Hardness Test method in a scale C with 9 sample points with major expense (P) 150 kgf. For the micro testing, the result of the observation is density change that occur to ferrite, pearlite and martensite crystal granules.
