Abstract
Masculinity is the result of a culture that has passed from generation to generation as a type of self-image that sticks to a man. The representation of masculinity will convey the type of affection from father to child. As in the masculinity theory of modern man that exists in this study, they describe how their affectionate attitude shows from father to family, particularly children. The representation that is explored in this research focuses on the masculinity representation that is seen in the film. The goals of this research are to reveal of representation of a new man as a nurturer from the character of the father drawn on film using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis. This research using explanative - qualitative, non – probability sampling retrieval method, and purposive sampling technique. The movie object of this research is ‘Ayah Mengapa Aku Berbeda?’ and ‘Ayah Menyayangi Hingga Akhir’, while the subject such as gesture and dialogue that act by the father of both movie itself. The result of the discussion and analysis shows that there is masculinity representation from the character of the father as a new man as a nurturer who takes a role to nurture their children and without any hesitation to show up their ‘demonstrating affection’ towards children and family.
