Abstract

The increase in the expansion of the business world is in line with the increasing spread of business actors ranging from the UMKM level to the modern market. Competition in the business world is inevitable, as a result there are many goods circulating in both traditional and modern markets that are not suitable for consumption, starting from misleading and obscuring information from these products in order to reduce the losses of business actors. In this case, the government, which has responsibility for the security and safety of its citizens, is required to participate in directly overseeing the course of trade so that in accordance with applicable regulations it also provides protection for consumers from losses that arise. Consumers have the right to be protected and guaranteed for the products they use. Of course, the roles of various parties, including the government, are needed to oversee the process. The purpose of this research is to know and understand more deeply about the supervision of consumer protection carried out by the government, in this case the Trade Service on expired goods. The approach method used in this research is a normative juridical approach. This research is descriptive in nature in the form of information obtained from monitoring reports conducted by the Surakarta City Trade Office on expired goods and then compared with legal norms, namely the Regulation of the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 / M-Dag / Per / 5/2009 concerning Provisions and Procedures for Supervision of Goods and / or Services. The results of the study indicate that there are still some modern business / market actors who have not met the criteria of statutory regulations. This shows that the supervision carried out by the government must be even more massive to reduce the possibility of losses experienced by consumers due to goods in circulation.
