Abstract
The ability to solve mathematical problems is one of the best abilities that students must master in order to be able to solve problems that are often encountered in real life. Indicators of problem ability include being able to understand problems, plan problem strategies, implement problem strategies, and test the answers obtained. This study aims to (1) describe the ability of mathematical literacy in solving PISA-type problems based on low-level initial mathematical abilities, (2) describe abilities mathematical literacy in solving PISA-type problems based on moderate initial mathematical abilities, and (3) describing the ability of mathematical literacy in solving PISA type problems based on initial high-level mathematical abilities. The method used in this research is qualitative. The research subjects were students of class VIII E with 29 students. The research instrument is a test item taken from the book Learning Mathematics for Life seen from the PISA perspective to see students' initial mathematical abilities which consist of 3 description questions. The data analysis used in these results was to classify students based on the Mid-Semester Assessment Results (PTS) as the students' initial abilities. Students are divided into three categories, namely the category of high KAM, medium KAM, low KAM. Based on the results of the analysis above, it can be seen that the average student has been able to reach level 4 and 5 while for level 6 students still experience difficulties. Students show that the Early Mathematics Ability (KAM) group is in the high category, students have the ability to solve mathematical problems at the step of understanding problems, compiling and solving strategies in problem solving. The high category is better than the medium category. Students in the problem solving step do not master in reexamining the correctness of the answer, so that we can know that students still find it difficult to solve PISA-type questions at levels 5 and 6.
