Abstract
Introductions: Nutrition plays significant role in maintaining and fostering a person's health which cannot be separated as an effort to prevent a disease. For people suffering Diabetes Millitus Type II, a good pattern of protein intake can stimulate insulin secretion which can control glucose levels properly so that glucose in the blood decreases. Objective: This study aimed to determine and analyze the correlation between protein intake and blood glucose levels in type II diabetes mellitus patients at Tawangsari Public Health Center, Sukoharjo. Methods : This research method was observational with a cross-sectional approach with a total sample of 27 patients with type II diabetes mellitus. Sample identity data were obtained from interviews, the patient's protein intake was taken using the SQFFQ method for 3 months which was calculated in grams / day and fasting blood glucose levels were measured by the GDP-PAP method. The correlation between protein intake and blood glucose levels was analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment test (p> 0.05). Results : From the analysis, it can be concluded that most of the samples with good protein intake were 77.8% and most of the samples had bad blood glucose levels of 81.5%. Conclusions : Based on the Pearson Product Moment test showed there was no correlation between protein intake and blood glucose levels in the patients suffering diabetes mellitus in the Puskesmas Tawangsari Sukoharjo (p = 0,494). Suggestions : For the Tawangsari Public Health Center, it is hoped that it can increase knowledge by gathering information about the intake of foodstuffs that can help control blood glucose levels, especially food sources of protein. Meanwhile, other researchers can further study the correlation between protein intake and blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients by observing or controlling their nutritional status.
