Abstract
Adiwiyata School is a school of cultural and environmental care. Adiwiyata School creates students' character to care of their environment. Adiwiyata School is a Ministry of Environment and Forestry's program to increase the students' awareness about environmental care. SMK Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta is school that apply Adiwiyata School program. The school has environmentally policies, implementation of environment-based curriculum, participatory activities, and management of facilities and infrastructure to support the teaching learning activity that is environmentally friendly so it can create the students' character of environmental care. The writer conducts the research about the implementation of Adiwiyata School in SMK Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta. The objective of the research is to explain the implementation of Adiwiyata School and to find out the obstacles of implementing Adiwiyata School in SMK Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta. The research is qualitative type using field study in SMK Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta. To collect the data, the writer used interview, observation, and documentation. The analyzing data used deductive method, it begins from general to specific cases. In accordance with the result of this research, the researcher concluded that SMK Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta had implemented Adiwiyata School. However on the other side, in developing the school's wisdom of environmentally sound there are still subjects that do not yet have Learning Program Plan (RPP) that leads to environmental protection. SMK Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta has still many obstacles in implementing Adiwiyata School program, there are namely the density of teaching learning activities, holiday and industrial, and also lack of assistance so it makes the program runs poorly.
