Abstract

This study was conducted to compare the financial performance of Islamic banking in Indonesia and Islamic banking in Malaysia. The development of Islamic banks is currently more rapid and is starting to be recognized by the wider community, especially in Indonesia and Malaysia. This is because Islamic banks do not use an interest system but for the results so that they avoid usury. This study aims to determine the financial performance of Islamic banks with a comparative study between Indonesia and Malaysia which was conducted over a 3-year period, namely 2017 to 2019. This study uses the RGEC method, namely Risk-Profile, which is proxied by the FDR (Financing to Deposite Ratio) ratio, Good assessment Corporate Governance (GCG) or corporate governance itself which is proxied by composite value, Earnings which is proxied by ROA (Return On Assets) ratio, and Capital which is proxied by CAR (Capital Adequency Ratio) ratio. The data used are secondary data and hypothesis testing using the Independent t-test if the data is normally distributed and the Mann-Whitney Test if the data is not normally distributed. The results of this study indicate that there are differences in financial performance between Islamic Bank Indonesia and Malaysian Syariah Bank on the ratio of FDR, GCG, and ROA. Meanwhile, in the CAR ratio there is no difference between Islamic Bank Indonesia and Islamic Bank Malaysia.
