Abstract
Specifications that must be on the wheels of the vehicle is to have good toughness, so that when the impact of the wheels is not easily broken. Heat Treatment can be carried out to improve the mechanical properties of aluminum alloys. This study aims to find out the change in the impact value of local wheels (Al- Si) on Artificial Aging heat treatment of water and water <10°C cooling media. This study uses aluminum from local alloy wheels for four-wheeled vehicles that re-cast using the method of Sand Casting. Temperature Solution Heat Treatment used was 500 ° C with a holding time of 5 minutes. Media Quenching used water and ice water. Temperature Aging used was 180 ° C with a holding time of 4 hours. Cooling is done slowly with the specimen in the oven. In testing the chemical composition, it is known that the main element of local wheels is Al-Si, with a percentage of Al (92.15%) and Si (3.65%). After the process of Artificial Aging highest value increase impact on media material with Quenching water <10°C, the value impact of 0,067 J /mm² be 0.092 J /mm². Seen from the microstructure, the increase in the impact value occurs because the aluminum element present in the material after the process is Artificial Aging more than the aluminum element found in the material after the process of Re-melting.
