Abstract
This research is aim to describe the climate of learning mathematics in SMP Negeri 4 Surakarta, namely a focus on describing climate of non-physical and physical climate in the mathematics learning at SMP Negeri 4 Surakarta. This type of research is qualitative research with the approach of ethnographic. Method of collecting data by observation, documentation, and interview. The results of this study show that: First, related to the non-physical climate in mathematics learning, namely (1) the circumstances of students show enthusiasm and passion in good learning, from the beginning of the learning process, the core of learning. Awarding from teachers is one of the factors in fostering spirit, enthusiasm, and learning satisfaction; (2) The social interaction of teachers and students during learning, the teacher gives clear direction, fair treatment encourages students to be more comfortable in learning; and (3) social interaction between students during learning, interaction between students in mathematics learning is well established, compact, mutually supportive, mutually understanding and not individualistic. Second, the physical climate in mathematics learning at SMP Negeri 4 Surakarta is: (1) completeness of learning resources. The learning resources of students in mathematics learning in addition to student books from the ministry of education, the students utilize learning resources from other reference books from the library and buy independently; (2) the completeness of props in SMP Negeri 4 Surakarta for props used is still simple still limited to the props made by students as project tasks in the materials taught; and (3) the condition of the classroom (safety and comfort), classroom lighting is very supportive of the mathematical learning process with the facilities of 4 lamps in the classroom, in addition to being supported by good air circulation with air conditioning and fan facilities that make students comfortable in following mathematics learning as well as noise levels (soundproofing) of SMP Negeri 4 Surakarta which is supported by the location of schools far from the center of the crowd and the classroom has been conditioned to concentrate without making noise during learning.
