Abstract
Biotransformation is a process of changing compounds into derivative compounds whose structure is different from the original compound due to the metabolic activity of a microorganism, for example, one of the biotransformation method is fermentation. Laos has a variety of activities such as antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor. This study aims to develop the potential for better effectiveness into a high potential compound in the pharmaceutical field. In this research, transformation of laos (Alpinia galanga) using the biotransformation method utilizes mushrooms found in tempe yeast and bread yeast. The reaction carried out on the biotransformation method uses the help of a shaker with the optimization of the biotransformation time for 5 days. Furthermore, the reaction product is extracted with ethyl acetate and then dried with a vacuum rotary evaporator. Analysis was performed using thin layer chromatography test with readings on UV light of 254 nm and 366 nm and analysis of liquid cromatograhpy-mass spectra. The results show there is no spot difference between pure compounds and biotransformation results and LC-MS results between pure compounds and biotransformation results are at the same molecular weight of 201.68, these results indicate that there are no new compounds or compounds that are more optimal in biotransformation carried out on phenylpropanoid compounds of laos extract with tempeh yeast and bread yeast mediators.
