Abstract
Aluminum (AI) is a light metal that has good corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity. By knowing the mechanical properties and physical properties of a material, we can use the material as needed. To improve the mechanical properties of aluminum, the heat treatment method is Artificial aging. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of artificial aging heat treatment on changes in the mechanical properties of OEM wheels. Making specimens from OEM wheel materials that are re-cast using the sand casting method. The test specimens were processed by the initial step of solution treatment temperature of 500 ° C holding time of 5 minutes. Then quenching with media and ice water of 2.70C. After quenching,heat treatment was carried out with artificial aging temperature 180 ° C holding time for 4 hours. In testing the chemical composition, it is known that the main elements of OEM wheels are Al (93.59%) and Si (6.09%). After undergoing theprocess, artificial aging the mechanical properties are obtained, namely the hardness value of 60.06 BHN and the impact value of 0.1 J / mm2 . The area of grain Si formed after theprocess artificial aging is larger andwhen compared to densergrain remeltingand quenching, thus affecting its mechanical properties.
