Abstract
This research was conducted to improve student achievement by applying the discovery learning method. The subjects of this study were the teacher as the action giver and 10 students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Nglames as the recipient of the action. This is classroom action research and it was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Data collection in this study was carried out using observation, tests, and documentation which were analyzed using quantitative descriptive with percentages. The results of this study indicate that student achievement in accounting subjects increased, which can be seen in those indicators: 1) Student engagement improved in the learning process, 2) Comparison level about the learning material increased, 3) Student could answer the questions from the teacher easily, 4) Student could follow the learning process easily, 5) Expressing opinions during learning, 6) Good discussion in the learning process. From these explanations it can be concluded that the use of discovery learning learning methods can improve student achievement in accounting subjects for class XI students in SMA in Gunungsari village, Madiun district.
