Abstract
This study aims to determine the influence of variations in the cooling media (water, oil SAE 40 and ice water) in the process of artificial aging on hardness values of alloy wheels local (Al-Si). The manufacture of specimens of the material of alloy wheels local. The process of making specimens using casting methods of sand casting. Test specimens processed with the initial steps of solution heat treatment temperature of 500°C a holding time of 5 minutes. Then quenching with variation of the cooling medium water, oil SAE 140 and water ice. After quenching, heat treatment artificial aging temperature of 180°C a holding time of 4 hours. The results of testing the hardness after the process of artificial aging on the raw material before heat treatment is increased in the cooling medium water of 54.58 BHN be 61,09 BHN, oil medium SAE 140 of 54.58 BHN be 55,23 BHN and the media of ice water from 54.58 BHN be 61,09 BHN. The percentage of the highest increase occurred on the media cooling water and ice water of 11,92%.
