Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between empathy and prosocial behavior in mountain climbers. Because in several cases and observations made, researchers found a positive or negative relationship between empathy and prosocial behavior in climbers. So that researchers want to ensure the relationship between empathy and prosocial behavior in climbers is dominated by positive (no relationship) or negative (no relationship) relationships. Prosocial behavior is driven by internal and external factors. There are many factors behind the prosocial behavior. Researchers choose empathy as research material. The method used in this research is a quantitative method with an empathy scale measuring instrument with a validity index moving between 0.667-0.916 and a reliability of 0.754. As well as measuring tools for the scale of prosocial behavior with a validity index moving between 0.667-0.916 and a reliability of 0.836. The data is obtained with the help of Googleform with snowball or snowball sampling techniques and proposive sampling. Researchers took populations who live in the area of Java, especially Central Java, at least have done mountain climbing at least 2-3 times, climbers, both male and female, with an age range of 15-50 years, and the sample used was 120 people according to the criteria. Data analysis was performed with the help of SPSS 2.4 for Windows. With Product Moment Correlation analysis. From the analysis, the results obtained are the correlation coefficient (rxy) of 0.405 with a significance value (p) of 0.000 (p <0.01). These results indicate that there is a significant positive relationship between the relationship between empathy and prosocial behavior.
