Abstract
This study aims to determine the Self Presentation of Non-Islamic Students at the Communication and Informatics Faculty of the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta with a self-presentation theory approach. This study used a qualitative descriptive method using two data sources, namely primary data and secondary data. Primary data were obtained using in-depth interviews while secondary data were obtained from theses, journals and books. The results showed that there were social adaptations carried out by non-Muslim students. In facing an environment that is different from himself, non-Islamic students at FKI UMS make self-presentations with the intention of getting acceptance from the environment and forms of adaptation to the environment. Both intents are implemented in the relevant setting, appearance and manner. In a different setting, different environments make it uncomfortable but no other large private campus can be an option. These considerations dominate them to continue their studies at FKI UMS. Related to appearance. Adabtasi through appearance is carried out because of differences in appearance in terms of how to dress and the use of accessories by non-Muslim students and Muslim students. Another element that is also considered in this study is the manner of acting in the self-presentation technique on the front stage an actor must be able to manage the style of acting well. There is control within the actor to present a manner according to what he has formulated in the back stage. This manager is also what non-Islamic students at FKI UMS pay attention to. They carefully adjust their behavior according to the environment. Even though what was displayed by non-Islamic students on the front stage appeared without any problems, there were several different things on the back stage.
