Abstract
Most of the overseas students who come from outside the island of Java are unable to adjust well, either to the lecture environment or their peers because they are far from home, family and close friends, causing a burden in carrying out lecture activities and experiencing difficulties in time management to get new experiences in lectures. Self adjustment is a process or effort made by individuals in continuous interaction with their environment in order to be accepted by the surrounding community, as well as overcoming internal needs, social tensions, frustrations and conflicts and being able to create harmony in accordance with the prevailing norms in the surrounding community. Overseas students are individuals who have completed high school education and left their home areas for other regions on their own accord to continue higher education and carry out socialization activities for a long or short time, with the intention of returning to their hometown. This study used a qualitative method, with data collection using interviews with five new college student informants who came from outside Java. The purpose of this study is to describe the self adjustment of new students who come from outside Java. The results of this study illustrate that in self-adjustment: 1) the four informants experienced obstacles in adjusting to the Solo city environment and the campus environment, 2) and being able to follow the rules set in the environment where they lived, one subject often felt lazy when following the rules in where he lives, 3) the informant has difficulty managing and managing his personal finances, 4) the informant experiences changes in good behavior during the adjustment process, 5) the informant experiences obstacles in communicating using Javanese.
