Abstract
This research discusses the literacy culture of al-quran in improving the ability to read al-quran at SMP Budi Utomo Surakarta. The objectives of this study are 1) To describe the process of the literacy culture of the Qur'an which is applied in improving the ability to read al-Qur'an in students at SMP Budi Utomo Surakarta. 2) To identify the factors that affect the students' ability to read al-Qur'an at SMP Budi Utomo Surakarta. This type of research is qualitative research. Methods of data collection using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis using data analysis techniques used in research is qualitative analysis. Researchers observe and collect data from interviews, observation and documentation. The analysis used is using the inductive thinking method, which departs from real data or research results in the field, then links it with the theories that have been made as a basis for thinking, then correlated and conclusions drawn. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the process of Al-Qur'an Literacy Culture in Improving the Ability to Read Al-Qur'an at SMP Budi Utomo Surakarta uses 2 stages, namely the stage of habituation and development guidance. As for the evaluation, students are given an assignment at home. Factors that support literacy activities are awareness in students and motivation given by teachers / parents to encourage stu dents' interest in reading. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors in literacy are students' lack of reading interest, family environment and during this pandemic the teacher cannot monitor directly.
