Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus is an incurable disease. The prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus had increased dramatically in developing countries; including Indonesia. One of four Diabetes Mellitus management pillar is patient education. Education in the hospital was carried out by means of counseling conducted by nutritionists. Nutritional counseling was expected to improve life quality optimization and the patients’ life expectancy. Patient knowledge and family support were important so that patients have the motivation to carry out nutritional counseling. This study aimed to determine the correlation between patient knowledge and family support with the motivation of nutritional consultation visits to Diabetes Mellitus outpatients at the Internal Medicine of RSUD Ir. Soekarno Sukoharjo. The research design was an observational analysis with a cross-sectional approach by using consecutive sampling technique done by 30 patients. The retrieval of data by means of questionnaire was filled out by Diabetes Mellitus patients who visited Ir. Soekarno hospital. Data were analyzed using Rank Spearman test. The results of this study showed that the majority of respondents possessed high knowledge of Diabetes Mellitus (93.3%), high family support (93.3%) and high motivation in visiting nutrition clinic at RSUD Ir. Soekarno for nutrition consultation (83.3%). The results of the statistical test related to the knowledge of Diabetes Mellitus patients with motivation to visit the nutrition clinic showed a p-value of 0.886 (>0.05). The influence of family support with the motivation to visit the nutrition clinic showed a p-value of 0.589 (>0.05). The results of this study indicated that there was no significant correlation between patient knowledge of Diabetes Mellitus and family support towards the motivation of consultation visits to nutrition clinic.
