Abstract

Abstract Background: Mouthwash is widely used in society to rinse the mouth and prevent tooth decay such as cavities and periodontal disease. The mouthwash solution that is commonly used by the community is a mouth rinse with alcohol content. The effects of alcohol use can damage teeth and mouth such as burning mouth sensation and xerostomia. Composite resins are generally used by patients because of their good and strong aesthetics. Composite resin can experience solubility due to the amount of water absorption by the composite resin in oral fluids. This occurs due to the degradation of the material due to excessive water absorption resulting in the release of residual monomer monomers. Nanohybrid composite resin has a very small filler size which can minimize water solubility. Purpose: to determine the effect of a mouth rinse containing alcohol with the solubility of nanohybrid composite resin. Discussion: Mouthwash is a liquid used to provide freshness to the oral cavity and to clean the mouth from plaque and organisms that cause oral disease. The mouthwash solution that is often used by the public is a mouth rinse with alcohol content. Alcoholic mouth rinses can soften the surface of the composite resin and cause degradation of the matrix. The result of this degradation of the matrix can break the polymer bonds in the composite resin and result 2 in water solubility in the composite resin material. Composite resin has physical and mechanical properties, one of which is water solubility. Nanohybrid composite resin has a small filler particle size that minimizes solubility. Conclusion: Alcoholic mouth rinses have a higher water solubility in nanohybrid composite resin restorations. Keywords: nanohybrid composite resin; alcoholic mouthwash; water solubility
