Abstract

Trangsan is the name of a village in Gatak sub-district, Sukoharjo, Central Java. This village is known as the center of the largest rattan handicraft industry in Sukoharjo Regency. Although it does not have its own rattan plantation, this village is able to supply rattan raw materials from certain areas to be processed into various handicrafts and furniture very well. Apart from being a product made by the local community, rattan handicrafts are works of art with high aesthetic value. Therefore, this rattan craft is not only in demand by local people, but also by many foreigners. The condition of the handicraft industry in Trangsan Gatak Sukoharjo Village is very developed as evidenced by the increasing variety of handicraft industries that are produced as furniture and interior decoration. Trangsan Dainggap Village has contributed greatly to the progress of regional development in Sukoharjo Regency by increasing employment opportunities and increasing regional income. Therefore, this Trangsan rattan handicraft industry center needs special attention so that it is better known by the wider community. This planning and design aims to create a Rattan Furnicraft Promotion, Information and Workshop Center building in Trangsan Village to accommodate promotional activities, product information, and education about rattan handicrafts from craftsmen in this village. The building is designed with a modern concept but remains contextual with the surrounding buildings. The use of local materials is also applied to designs that aim to raise the local characteristics of a tourist village, namely rattan crafts. With the addition of public facilities with important functions in them, it can be a way to support the progress and sustainability of tourism in the Trangsan Rattan Craft Village.
