Abstract
This study aims to describe: 1) Implementation of journalistic extracurricular activities at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta; 2) The process of developing students' writing skills in journalistic extracurricular activities; 3) The process of cultivating students' critical thinking skills in journalistic extracurricular activities; 4) Barriers and solutions that arise in the implementation of journalism extracurricular activities at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta. This type of research is descriptive-qualitative research, with data collection techniques: interviews, documentation, and observations. The resource persons of this study were the principal, coaches and extracurricular journalism teachers at SD Muhamadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta. The data analysis technique used in this study was data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results of this study state 1) Implementation of journalistic extracurricular activities at SD Muhammadiya 1 Ketelan Surakarta has a background, objectives, planning, implementation and assessment; 2) The process of growing writing skills in journalistic extracurricular activities in the form of writing short stories, story experiences, and clippings using writing stages; 3) The process of developing students 'critical thinking skills by reading and writing, can be seen from the students' writing which is made coherently and continuously; 4) the obstacles encountered were the diversity of student characters encountered by the teacher and the inconsistent writing skills encountered by teachers and students, the solutions given were approaches and giving motivation to students, as well as student selection.
