Abstract
The city of Surabaya is the fourth largest city on the island of Java according to the total population of twenty major cities in Indonesia. The city of Surabaya is experiencing a temperature trend from 1979 to 2017. An increase in temperature in the city of Surabaya will affect the urban heat island phenomenon. This research was conducted with the aim of (1) analyze temperature trends and the UHI phenomenon in the city of Surabaya in 2014 and 2019. (2) Analysis of the relationship between vegetation density and the existence of the UHI phenomenon in the city of Surabaya. The method in this research use. utilization of secondary image data. The results of the research are 1) UHI in the city of Surabaya fluctuates in each research year up to 5.6oC in 2014, 4.4oC in 2019. 2) Vegetation density in Surabaya City from 2014 to 2019 has decreased the impact of development on increasing temperatures surface, 3) Land Surface Temperature is average in 2014 (25.35oC) while in 2019 it is average (28 oC).
