Abstract

ABSTRACT Pesantren is the oldest educational institution in Indonesia. In the modern era, the pesantren education system needs to adapt to the times in order to respond to global challenges. However, on the one hand, pesantren must maintain the culture of fundamental values that have enabled them to survive until now. In connection with this, the authors conducted research on pesantren reform in response to changing times with the title "Ideas for Pesantren Renewal according to K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid in the Book Menggerakkan Tradisi Esai-Esai Pesantren". In this study, the authors used a library research research approach or literature review research. Sources of library research data for library research research can be in the form of research journals, dissertations, theses, theses, research reports, text books, papers, seminar reports, scientific discussions, or official publications of the government or other institutions. The data collection method used in this research is documentation. The collected data were analyzed using content analysis method. The results of this study confirm that 1) K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid in reforming the pesantren education system, namely, reforming leadership in pesantren, updating the pesantren curriculum, and establishing public school institutions in pesantren. 2) The reform of the boarding school education system is basically based on Almuhafaḍatu ,, ala al-qadīmi aṣ-ṣaliḥ mā al-akhżu bi al-jadīdi al-aṣlaḥ (maintaining the good things that already exist, while developing new and better things. well). K.H.'s thoughts Abdurrahman Wahid is considered very relevant for the development of reform in pesantren education today, because with his thought that providing public schools in the pesantren environment it is hoped that the santri can continue to recite at the Islamic boarding school and can also continue formal studies. It is hoped that the students can remain diligent and rooted in the study of books taught in Islamic boarding schools but also gain knowledge or skills obtained from public schools.
