Abstract

Purpose: Early childhood is a group of children who are in a unique process of growth and development. One aspect of early childhood development is language, where language is a mean of communication by symbolizing thoughts and feelings in order to convey meaning to others. Language development in children’s speaking ability can be optimal according to the stages of development when given appropriate and appropriate stimuli. Practicing children’s speaking skills continuously makes children have a lot of vocabulary so that in conveying something the child does not feel difficult. The purpose of this research is to examine the literature, articles and research documents that identify the development of early childhood speech using story series media. Methods: This study is a secondary research type of literature review. The reference sample is in the form of primary articles of approximately articles consisting of 15 national journals and 5 international journals. Result & Discussions: The literature review stated that the children’s speaking ability and vocabulary mastery in implementing learning using series-picture story media makes children more enthusiastic in the learning process and can achieve maximum result in accordance with the teachers’s goals in developing children’sspeech. Conclusion: Early childhood speaking ability is considered very important in the process of children’s speech development, because early childhood is the right age level in stimulating to optimize all aspects of child development. One of them is by developing children’s speaking skills using serial picture story media. The existence of serial picture story media makes children more creative in telling stories by seeing pictures that children see directly.
