Abstract
The representation of gender role has been shown in any kinds of films including Indonesian family film. Film as one of mass media is assumed to have an essential role in indoctrinate the gender role construction. A film is most likely based on social relity happened in the society, one of them is about gender role. This research aimed to know how the gender role was potrayed in Indonesian family film using a research method that was qualitative analysis. The film used in this research entitled “Keluarga Cemara” was released in beginning of 2019. This film was the remake of a drama with the sae title that released in 1996. This research used purposive sampling technique sampling with documentation as the technique of collecting data. The result of this research showed that the representation of a woman gender role especially a mother was related to domestic area and having a dominant role in raising children, it differed with man especially father that was potrayed having a role as the head of family and breadwinner. As for the children, the role of a daughter is related with helping the parents in domestic field.
