Abstract

Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and the highest risk factor for global death. Women are known to have a higher risk of developing hypertension than man. The purpose of this study was to determine the evidence of the relationship between hormonal contraceptive use and the duration of hormonal contraceptive use with the incidence of hypertension in published health journals in Indonesia. The literature was searched using the Garuda Ristekbrin database. The keywords used to search the literature were: "hypertension and contraception" and "blood pressure and contraception". Based on the search results on the Garuda Portal, the researcher found 39 literature that matched the search keyword. The screening results obtained 6 literatures that match the inclusion criteria. The six literatures used a cross-sectional research design, and the majority used a non-random sampling method to determine the research sample. The number of samples studied was quite diverse, ranging from 45 - 34,755 people. The results of bivariate analysis show that the majority of literature shows a significant relationship between the use of hormonal contraceptives and the length of time using hormonal contraceptives with an increase in blood pressure. The results of the multivariate analysis showed that the study had high statistical power.
