Abstract
Abstract Diabetes Mellitus Type II is a disease caused by insulin resistance, because the number of insulin receptors on the cell surface decreases, although the amount of insulin does not decrease. Magnesium is very important as a cofactor in all ATP transfer reactions. This indicates that magnesium has a very important role in insulin receptors, where an intracellular Magnesium depletion can cause tyrosine kinase function defects in insulin receptors and if it occurs continuously and chronically it can cause Diabetes Mellitus Type II and the development of macro and microvascular complications Diabetes Mellitus Type II This study aims to determine the relationship of magnesium intake with fasting blood glucose levels in people with T2DM in Tawangsari Health Center. This research method is observational with cross-sectional approach. Taking 27 research subjects by taking into account the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection of zinc intake by direct interview using the Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQFFQ) method for the past 3 months and data collection of blood glucose levels using venous blood samples by spectrophotometer method. To determine the relationship of magnesium intake with fasting blood glucose levels using Pearson Product Moment. Magnesium intake was mostly good (59.3%). Fasting blood glucose levels in the samples were mostly poor (81.5%). The results of the correlation test between magnesium intake and fasting blood glucose were p = 0.567 There is no relationship between zinc intake and fasting blood glucose levels in DMT2 patients at Tawangsari Health Center. Food ingredients that have high magnesium levels, namely papaya leaves, can be used as education by nutrition officers at the Tawangsari Community Health Center. Keywords: blood glucose levels, diabetes mellitus, and magnesium intake
