Abstract
This study aims to determine the size of the pattern design in the manufacture of centrifugal rotary pump impellers. Knowing the characteristics of gray cast iron from the results of chemical composition, micro photo and hardness test. Knowing the average percentage of shrinkage that occurs in castings. In the casting process begins by collecting data about the casting, then prepare the tools and materials needed. Then design the pattern of the mold using solid work to determine the size of the mold to be made. Perform the casting process and calculate the percentage of shrinkage in the cast product. The next step is to test chemical composition, hardness and micro photos on gray cast iron material. From the casting results the design of the mold pattern is made with a larger size to anticipate shrinkage during the casting process and parts that still require finishing process. The impeller casting experiences an average shrinkage percentage of 1.03% or 1.31 mm. Keywords: gray cast iron, shrinkage, hardness, centrifugal rotary pump impeller
