Abstract
Metal casting starts with pattern making and continues with mold making. Sand molding, namely making molds using printed sand media. There are several kinds of printed sand, one of which is red sand. The existence of various kinds of printed sand has different characterizations. One of them is red sand. The research method was carried out by examining the properties of red sand. The mold uses red sand in a circular pattern like insect repellent. Gray cast iron casting is carried out by pouring liquid metal into a mold. The results of gray cast iron were tested on SEM EDX. The results of the printed sand test, the clay content test for fine red sand without mixture of 8.78%, fine red sand mixed with bentonite 7.66%, coarse red sand without mixture of 8.92%, rough red sand with bentonite mixture 7.16%. GFN on coarse red sand without the highest mixture is 46.01 the lowest 0.15, the highest fine red sand without mixture is 43.77, the lowest is 0.03. SEM photo, which shows the crystallization form of gray cast iron, the variation of sand roughness and clay content does not affect the results of the castings on the SEM and EDX test results.
