Abstract
Introduction: Dyslipidemia is an abnormal condition where there is an increase in LDL, total cholesterol, triglycerides and decrease in HDL of blood. Dyslipidemia is accelerated by oxidative stress reactions. Oxidative stress is caused by an overproduction of free radicals and lack of antioxidants in blood which causes lipids in cell membranes to undergo oxidation reactions, endothelial dysfunction, and increased inflammatory response. With the CAPE content in propoelixTM, free radicals production will be inhibited and can prevent oxidative stress and can inhibit dyslipidemia. Research Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effect of PropoelixTM on HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) levels in strain wistar albino rats model dyslipidemia. Research Methodology: This research was true experimental design with pre-test – post-test control group design. The number of experimental animals was 28 strain wistar albino rats that fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria which were and then divided into 4 groups (2 control groups and 2 treatment groups). Group I was a positive control. Group II was negative control (dyslipidemia) that induced hypercholesterolemia meal 2 ml of egg yolk duck / tail / day. Group III was a group induced hypercholesterolemia meal 2 ml of duck egg / tail / day and treated with propoelixTM of 0.0216 gram / 200 g BW rats and group IV was a group that induced hypercholesterolemia 2 ml of duck egg / tail / day yolk and treated with propoelixTM 0.0432 gram / 200 g BW rats. Then the HDL levels were measured with CHOD-PAP method pre and post treatment. Analitic test using the One Way Anova test. Results: The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant increase (p <0.05) on HDL levels of wistar rats with a dose of 0.0216 g and 0.0432 g. In the treatment group propolis dose of 0.0216 grams increased by 22.59 mg/dL while in the treatment group propolis dose of 0.0432 grams increased by 46.85 mg/dL. Conclusion: Provision of propolis with dose of 0.0216 grams/200 g BW of rats and 0.0432 g/200 g BW of rats for 21 days gave effect to increased HDL levels in dyslipidemia rats.
