Abstract
The limited cost and accessible technology are the reasons why the tofu industry does not process its liquid waste. For this reason, it is necessary to find a cheap and easy method for treating tofu liquid waste. The natural technique found to be one of the cheap and easy to obtain adsorbents. Thus the purpose of this literature review is to review the literature related to the program/efforts to reduce ammonia levels in tofu liquid waste naturally. The method used in writing this literature review is to find sources from electronic databases covering EBSCO, Google Scholar, Proquest and Pubmed by reducing levels of ammonia in factory waste naturally as the keyword. The results of this journal review are that natural waste treatment is still an option in refining ammonia levels from 2009 to 2016. However, in 2014, Reducing ammonia levels can be done by using coffee grounds, clay, coconut shell, direct contact, and corn cobs which are considered very effective and efficient. This is because it can reduce costs and the simplicity of natural ingredients that are easy to obtain around the environment and greatly affect the reduction of amino levels in tofu liquid waste. The reduction in ammonia levels using coconut shells was considered to be the most effective and efficient, as evidenced by the very high reduction results, namely 93.93%.
