Abstract
The object of this study was carried out on PB Tarjo, a business engaged in making bricks which was carried out semi-manually with a little help from machines so as to cause the risk of Musculoskeletel Disorder / (MSD) muscle injury. There are 4 work stations, namely: (1) stirring, (2) grinding, (3) molding, and (4) burning bricks. The purpose of this study is to identify the part of muscle that has the potential to experience complaints and the level of risk experienced by workers. Research uses the Assessment of Repetitive Task (ART) Tool and NIOSH Lifting Equation. The stages of the ART method are (1) frequency and repetition, (2) hand strength, (3) awkward postures, (4) additional factors, (5) assignment scores and exposure scores, (6) presentation of results. The NIOSH equation method stage is collecting 7 variable data consisting of (1) load weight, (2) horizontal distance, (3) vertical distance, (4) trajectory distance, (5) turning angle, (6) lift frequency, and (7) handle type. ART Tool calculation results from 10 work activities there are 7 activities that have a moderate level of risk and 3 activities have a high risk. NIOSH Equation calculation results on 3 work activities lifting weights have a high risk of injury risk. The proposed improvement is to add a table for the cutting work station to move the bricks to the floor with a height of 50 cm, a length of 300 cm and a width of 43 cm. From the results of the design of the proposed improvement, a simulation of recalculation can reduce the ART Tool score by 31%.
