Abstract

Introduction: Depression in adolescents is a serious health problem that cannot be underestimated. Teenagers who are depressed will show signs of decreased quality of life. These signs include frequent absences from school, easily provoked emotions, absent from school, irritability, decreased interaction and communication, difficulty concentrating, difficulty building relationships, feeling helpless, and thoughts to endanger yourself ranging from self-harm to suicidal behavior or self-destruct (Stuart, 2013). The results of a preliminary survey conducted by researchers at the Imam Syuhodo Sukoharjo Islamic boarding school stated that there had been teenagers at the boarding school who were depressed and taken to the Surakarta Central Hospital for follow-up. Objective: to know the description of the level of depression or early detection of depression in adolescents at the X Sukoharjo Islamic boarding school. Research Method: The research method used is a quantitative descriptive study with a survey approach. Respondents were 92 children using a questionnaire. This research uses Nonprobability sampling, that is with total sampling technique. Characteristics of the sample used are teenagers aged 12-15 years. Results: The results of this study showed a depiction of the level of depression in adolescents in the X Sukoharjo Islamic boarding school categorized into 2 categories: depression and non-depression. The results can be seen in the category of depression in adolescents in the boarding school of X Sukoharjo as many as 18 adolescents (19.5%) are included in the category of not depressed, and as many as 74 adolescents or (80.5%) are included in the depression category. Conclusion: The level of depression in adolescents is the most included in the category of depression that is equal to (80.5%). However, from the respondents' statements, most of them never planned to injure themselves or commit suicide.
