Abstract

Literary works can be social control with various social criticisms contained therein. This study aims to: (1) describe the structure of the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori. (2) describe social criticism contained in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori. (3) implementing research results from the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori as teaching materials in class XI high school. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The data used is the story text contained in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori. Data collection techniques used in this study is to use document review. Data analysis technique is data reduction, data presentation, then drawing conclusions. The results of the study: (1) structural analysis in the novel Laut Bercerita shows the theme presented about the struggle of the activists of the New Order era, there were 34 figures with the main character named Biru Laut, the plot presented was a backward flow, and there was a background in the form of places in several island areas. Java and the City of New York and the time setting shows between 1991-2008. (2) Social criticism in the novel Laut Bercerita includes social criticism about poverty, social criticism about crime, social criticism on population issues, and social criticism on bureaucratic issues. (3) Implementation of research results as teaching materials in the form of handouts containing basic competencies 3.9 Analyzing struckture and language novels and 3.11 Analyzing messages from a fiction book that is read.
