Abstract

Marriage of young couples is not a stranger to life around us, at UMS itself many students have engaged in marriage. Marriage is a stage of life for everyone in life, with the aim to complete the happiness of extending generations and other goals, but wherever we are and whenever we are with anyone we will never escape conflict. Conflicts in young couples are like jealousy, character adjustment, financially especially for students who do not have permanent jobs and still have study responsibilities. This research is focused on household conflict, namely financial conflict. This study aims to find out how this young couple in managing their financial conflicts. The sample in this study were married UMS students and their ages in the range of 18-24 years, then the data were obtained using in-depth interviews with informants. The study was conducted by 4 married students who were the result of purposive sampling technique, they were UMS students who studied campus units 1 and 2 UMS which we later called A1-A2, B1-B2, C1-C2, D1-D2. Of them decided to get married because of avoiding bad things that happened, felt they had found a suitable person so they decided to build a household. The data obtained by them manage financial conflict in a way that is alternated by Thomas and Kilmann, namely a strategy of collaboration, accommodation, competition, compromise and avoidance of conflict.
