Abstract
ABSTRACT Reading the Al-Quran is an activity that is rarely found among the elderly. However, this activity can actually be found in the Elderly Boarding School Nurul Iman who is in Papahan, Kec. Tasikmadu, Kab. Karanganyar. This pesantren is an institution under the auspices of the Ta'lim Nurul Iman Foundation (MTNI) Karanganyar Regency which is attended by the elderly who are usually known as the second group and are not involved in the intelligence process. This phenomenon is very rarely found especially interested, because in the beginning the elderly age has decreased both in terms of physical and memory. And naturally at this age tend to spend a lot of time to rest and work. In addition, few of them received special attention in the field of education. However, in this study the authors found that the elderly who participated in this pesantren had been actively involved in learning to read the Al-Quran, memorize it and other spiritual activities. The formulation of the problems presented are 1). How to Motivate Elderly Learning in Reading the Al-Quran in the Elderly Boarding School Nurul Iman Papahan Karanganyar? 2). What are the Obstacles to Elderly Learning in Reading the Al-Quran in the Elderly Boarding School Nurul Iman Papahan Karanganyar? the purpose of this study is to find out: 1). Motivation for Elderly Learning in Reading the Al-Quran at the Elderly Boarding School Nurul Iman Papahan Karanganyar. 2). Factors Inhibiting Elderly Learning in Reading the Al-Quran in the Elderly Islamic Boarding School Nurul Iman Papahan Karanganyar. This research is a field research with a qualitative approach. Data sources use primary and secondary data. Data collected through interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative with inductive analysis techniques, which describe the facts obtained from the research site and then analyzed. The results showed that there were several factors which influenced Learning Motivation: 1). Intrinsic motives, motivations that come from within a person. 2). Extrinsic motives, motivations that come from outside oneself. Extrinsic motives consist of three, namely: a). Family, b). Friend, c). environment. One obstacle to learning to read the Quran for the elderly is the lack of support from the family, due to a less conducive environment so that learning activities are not formed for them.
