Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease characterized by abnormal blood sugar levels that will cause short-term and long-term complications if not managed properly. Many DM patients experience stress so they don't obey their diet. The purpose of this study was to determine the relation of stress levels with diet compliance of DM patients. This type of research is observational analytic using cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study was 93 DM patients. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. Data was collected using questionnaires. The results showed that 55 respondents (59.1%) had moderate stress, 38 respondents (40.9%) had mild stress. Moreover, there was 48 respondents (41.6%) did not obey to the diet and 45 respondents (48.4% ) obey to the diet. The results of bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test showed the significance value obtainedwas ρ = 0.005 (ρ <0.05) which indicates that there is a relation between stress levels and diet compliance of DM patients.
