Abstract

The family has a very important role to their health status, with chronic diseases they face such as diabetes mellitus. Family support and attitudes possessed by patients can have a positive impact on the compliance of care management in people with DM. This study aims to have a relationship between family support with patient attitudes and family support with efforts to control blood sugar levels of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Banyuanyar Surakarta Health Center. This research is a quantitative descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach. The study population was 412 people with diabetes mellitus in Banyuanyar Public Health Center Surakarta in 1 month. The research sample of 80 people who were determined using purposive sampling. Research data collection using a questionnaire, while data analysis using the chi squatest. The results of the study the relationship of family support with efforts to control blood sugar levels obtained p-value 0.015 and the attitude of patient with efforts to control blood sugar levels obtained p-value of 0.003. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between family support and patient attitudes with efforts to control blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus in Banyuanyar Surakarta Public Health Center, namely the higher family support and patient attitudes, the efforts to control their blood sugar levels are increasing.
