Abstract

Background:Surgery can cause pain that can disrupt a person's comfort. One factor that can affect sleep is health status. Objective: to find out whether there is a relationship between pain intensity and the quality and quantity of sleep in patients with post ORIF lower extremity fractures. Method: This research is quantitative, the research design used is correlative descriptive with cross-sectional approach. Data collection uses a pain scale and a questionnaire that has been tested for validity before use. The sample used as many as 38 people with purposive sampling technique sampling. Data analysis used the Rank Spearman test to determine the relationship of pain intensity with the quality and quantity of sleep in patients with post-ORIF lower extremity fractures. Results: The majority of respondents found mild pain intensity with moderate sleep quality, as many as 14 people (36.8%) with a p-value of 0.024 (<0.05), which means there is a relationship between pain intensity and sleep quality. While 14 people (36.8%) were stated to have mild pain intensity with moderate sleep quantity with p-value 0.003 (<0.05) which means there was a relationship between pain intensity and patient sleep quantity. Conclusion: The intensity of pain is one of the factors that influence the quality and quantity of sleep in patients with post ORIF lower extremity fractures. The quality and quantity of sleep is not only influenced by the intensity of pain, but there are other factors that can affect both, such as age, sex, etc.
