Abstract

Each school has a different culture in building students’s character at school. Like SMP Muhammadiyah Program Khusus Kottabarat Surakarta, One of the ways to build character of the students is through culture implemented in schools. The culture in this school is religious culture. Forms of religious culture such as Duha prayer, Dhuhr, and Asr in congregation, mentoring, and the existence of Islamic etiquette habituation. In addition to religious culture, there is still a school culture found in the SMP Muhammadiyah Program Khusus Kottabarat Surakarta in building student character education. Based on the background of the problem, the formulation of the problem is obtained: what are the superior school culture in building student character education in SMP Muhammadiyah Program Khusus Kottabarat Surakarta, what are the values of character education that exist in the school culture, and how the impact of implementing superior school culture of the SMP Muhammadiyah Program Khusus Kottabarat Surakarta ?. The purpose of this study is to identify superior school culture in fostering student character education in SMP Muhammadiyah Program Khusus Kottabarat Surakarta, identifying the values of students racter implanted, and the impact of implementing superior school culture in SMP Muhammadiyah Program Khusus Kottabarat Surakarta. This type of research is field research, with a phenomenological approach based on the phenomena in the school as a place of research. Data collection is done by conducting observation, interview, and documentary techniques. Data analysis is done inductively. Based on the results of research conducted by the author, the conclusion is: superior school culture in building character education Students in SMP Muhammadiyah Program Khusus Kottabarat Surakarta covers the culture of shaking hands, religious culture, independent culture, disciplinary culture, honest culture, queuing culture, clean culture, responsible culture, mobile diet culture, ceremonial culture on Monday, literacy reading culture, and the existence of culture should not bring more money in school. The values of character education are inculcated include religious values, discipline, honesty, integrity, independent nationalism, patriotism, mutual cooperation, social care, care for the environment, work hard, friendly/ communicative and like to read. As for the impact of school culture are: the school environment becomes comfortable and clean, the character of students becomes good, the establishment of good relationships between school dwellers, accustomed to do Islamic worship and etiquette, teaching and learning activities in schools become smooth, and improve school performance.
