Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the sociohistoric background of Asma Nadia, (2) the structure of Mother's novel: Cinta 2 Kodi, (3) the image of women contained in the Mother's novel: Cinta 2 Kodi, (4) the implementation of research results in literary learning in senior high school. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The research strategy is embedded case studies. This research data in the form of words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs in the novel Mother: Story of Love 2 Kodi which contains information about the structure, image of women, and its implementation in the study of literature in high school. The primary data source is Mother's novel: Cinta Cinta 2 Kodi and the secondary data source is relevant journal articles. Data collection through library techniques, refer to and record. The data analysis technique was using the semiotic model reading method, namely heuristic and hermeneutic reading. Results: (1) Sociohistorical setting: Asma Nadia was born into a literary family. Characteristics of his work: Islamic color; the language is simple so it's easy to understand; tells the story of the struggle of Muslim women; (2) The structure of the novel Mother: Story of Love 2 Kodi: the theme of the struggle of a mother in a family. Reverse flow, highlight back (flashback). Important figures: Kartika, Aryani, Farid, Bagja, Ibu Farid, Ibu Anton and Siti. The setting is: school, Kartika boarding house, campus canteen, cinema, bookstore, Aryani's house, hospital, abortion clinic, Tanah Abang market, Aryani's brother-in-law's house, mushalla, and food stalls. Time setting: 1962, 1963, 1965, 1989, 1992, 1998 and 2000. Social setting: Kartika came from a Javanese and Minangkabau family who were the children of teachers; (3) the image of women in Mother's novel: Cinta 2 Kodi: the image of women in (a) family, (b) society, and (c) religious world; (4) the results of this study can be implemented in literature learning in high school in the perspective of the 2013 curriculum class XII. This is because the novel complies with the criteria for teaching materials namely language, psychology, and cultural setting.
