Abstract
This study is aimed at describing the procedure of teaching vocabulary using illustration and its influence to the students‘ vocabulary mastery and for clarifying the advantages and disadvantages of the illustration to teach vocabulary. The result of this study hopefully will give contribution to the teaching and learning English. In achieving the objective, the writer used an action research involving four procedures; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research was held in MIM Blagung Boyolali. The writer took 23 students of the fifth year as the sample. To collect the required data the writer compared the results of pre-test and post-test. After collecting and analyzing the data, the writer described the result of the research. It can be concluded that teaching vocabulary using illustration in MIM Blagung Boyolali has good result. The result in this research is as follows: (1) there were 20 students who increased their English vocabulary achievement; (2) There were 3 students who decreased their English vocabulary achievement. The use of illustration in teaching vocabulary is very appropriate and helpful in teaching-learning process. The advantages of using illustration are the students have high interest in learning English and the students are motivated to be active in the class. The disadvantages of using illustration are the teacher needed much time to prepare material and she used the native language in the class.
