Abstract
This research aims to describe the implementation teaching writing through portfolio assessment to the 9th year students of SMP N 2 Banyudono, Boyolali and to describe the improvement of the students’ writing skill through Portfolio Assessment. The writer applies a classroom action research as the type of research. The data of this research are field notes and the scores of pre-test and post-test. She uses observation and test for collecting the data. The techniques of analyzing data are reducing the data, presenting the data and verifying the data. The results of the research shows that: 1).The implementation of teaching writing through Portfolio Assessment at SMP N 2 Banyudono Boyolali includes two cycles. Each of cycles consists of two meetings and every meeting consisted of a series of steps, namely; planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. 2). Teaching writing through Portfolio Assessment improves the students’ writing skill in SMP N 02 Banyudono,Boyolali. There were 24 students who increased their writing achievement, 8 students had static achievement and 4 students decreased their writing achievement. The research results of pre- test is 61, 6 and post- test is 70, 9 which means that the students’ writing ability increases after they were taught through Portfolio Assessment.
